About the Artist
Who is Faux Pas Fox?
Faux Pas Fox is an American instrumentalist, composer, producer, and artist. He is based out of Washington State, where he grew up. After ten plus years of dedicated practice, he is an advanced clarinet player. Along with clarinet, he also performs on bass clarinet, as well as tin whistle, bass tin whistle, recorder, piano, and just about anything else that he can make a sound with. As a teen, he began producing electronic music on a little iPhone using GarageBand. Since then, he has taken his music production to the next level.
What Makes His Music His Own?
The Faux Pas Fox sound is defined by three principles. First, acoustic instruments. Many real instruments build the foundation for his work. He is particularly interested in the mellow, airy tones of woodwinds. Second, genre bending. Faux Pas Fox's music is inspired by the sounds of Future Bass, 8-bit, hip-hop, house, underground, and grunge, as well as concert styles such as chamber, classical, baroque, avant gaurde ,and Jazz. Third, his experience in the symphony orchestra. While he may work with modern styles of music, the overall structure of his works are based mainly on that of symphony. Faux Pas Fox tries to tell a story through his songs by giving contrast and variation.
His Origin
For Faux Pas Fox, the first time he held a clarinet in his grasp at age eight was life changing. Experimenting with music as a child was where he found his love of music and performing with a local youth symphony fostered that love. As a teen, with many years of symphony under his belt, he began his journey of composition, taking every opportunity he could from high level performance instruction to music theory to learning advanced production software.
Writing music was always a way to deal with his problems when he didn't have the words (or didn't want to use words) to express himself. He wrote for his own enjoyment. Whether it was a battle within him, such as his battle with Tourettes, or an expression of joy, it went into music. It began with little pieces scribbled out on scratch paper, then larger ensembles created on GarageBand. Then came electronica. Many people think of electronic and symphonic music as being at odds with each other, but Faux Pas Fox took the best of both worlds and mixed them together into something new and unexpected; the expression of symphonic and the dramatics of virtuosic playing mixed with the unlimited possibilities of the synthesizer.
His Mission
Faux Pas Fox always enjoyed the sounds of popular music but was often turned off by much of the vulgarity of it. He knew what he wanted to listen to and he couldn't seem to find it anywhere, so he simply made it for himself. He wanted music that employed modern production techniques but that was also expressive in the way that it seemed to tell a story and wasn't just about lewd acts and Intoxication. Later on, he was convinced by friends and family that, if he was feeling this way, there must be others out there who were seeking the same thing. Thus, Faux Pas Fox was born, committing his brand to creating music that is emotive and fresh, but also diverse, clean, and God Honoring; something that seemed almost a "Faux Pas" of pop culture
